Tips & Tricks
- “Blow your hair dry, get a blow out, just don’t have bad hair the week you are due,” she explains. If high school girls can dote on their hair every day, you can take the extra twenty minutes on one day. Think about it: don’t you want to look your best when the photos will be framed, circulated and Facebooked? If wearing your hair down is out of the question, wear your hair pulled back in a sleek ponytail.
- Think portability. Seriously, the beautiful thing about makeup is that you can literally toss a few things in a very tiny cosmetic case. Pack a simple make-up kit with staples like foundation, lip gloss and of course, mascara. Keep it simple, yes, but barefaced? No.
- Get new threads. Granted, you’ll be in a hospital bed but why would you wear a bland shade of gray to absorb institutional lighting when you could wear pink instead? Instead of wearing a blah hospital gown, pack a non-hospital gown and change into it before the pics are snapped. Since standard hospital gowns are not flattering, simply get an inexpensive colorful one instead. We recommend the B.Y.O.G. Hospital Gown. Stylin!
hâut-to-go
For some, leaving home without their makeup is like leaving home without your shoes. If you're an expecting mom and also a makeup fiend, here's a hint: pack a makeup bag in your hospital bag so you're prepared and primped for labor. Here is what you need:
Waterproof Mascara - Those tears of joy will come when they place that beautiful newborn in your arms, so you want to be ready.
Mineral Eye Shadow - It is very water resistant, and usually won’t budge until you remove it with makeup remover. Choose a soft bronze shade because it will add warmth and color to the eye area without looking overdone. Stick with just one color.
Water-resistant Eyeliner - Just a little on the top lash line for definition. You want your eyes to show up in all the pictures everyone is going to take of you with the baby.
Mineral blush/bronzer - This is great on eyes too for a radiant 'Mom glow', even when you have been pushing for hours and there is still no baby!
Your Favorite hâut Lip Gloss or glow balm - Because your lips get so dry during labor, it’s the one thing you should keep next to your hospital bed.
Custom Blend or Pressed Mineral Foundation - It’s not going to rub off when you lay your face down on the pillow to scream during contractions. And keep in mind, a yellow-based shade will counteract redness best. Labor just isn’t pretty, but at least you will be!
